If you were foolish enough to buy a 99-05 VW Passat, then be prepared to keep an eye on your mailbox. Every non-diesel Passat sold during those model years is affected by the latest recall, involving the heat shield by the catalytic converter. On some cars, the shield could be damaged, so VW wants to look things over and take care of the problem if need be. No accidents have been reported so far. This is one of those fun cases where VW is ahead of the curve, and wants to fix a potential problem before it hurts anyone. Good call. VW will start mailing out letters in the first week of June.
