Owners of Jetta sedans, from model years 2006 to 2009 should keep an eye on their mailbox. Volkswagen issued a recall affecting over 25k of these Jetta sedans – for a driveshaft issue. The problem seems to be poorly manufactured driveshaft cover plates. The screws could possibly back themselves out, causing a whole mess of noise. Theoretically, the driveshaft could come loose from the gearbox – and you don’t need to be a mechanic to know how bad that would be.
I hate to say “Typical Volkswagen” , but well, it sure sounds like typical VW. A simple mistake, to be sure – and all manufacturer’s have issues. But VW seems to have a lot of these types of issues. Recall notices will be issued shortly.
Note: Only 2.0 liter engine are affected. If you’re rocking a TDI, sleep tight.
