Tesla Roadster Update

Tesla Roadster Here’s a bit of a bad news for the upcoming Tesla Roadster. The original estimated range for this all-electric sports car was 250 miles on one charge - pretty comparable with many sports cars on the road today. After testing, that figure has been revised to just 200 miles per charge. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not a huge difference, but it is a 20% drop - pretty significant.

If I had the pocket change to drop ( estimated to be about $100k ) , the range drop wouldn’t faze me. All all-electric car with crazy performance figures is still awesome in my book, even if it only goes 200 miles at a time.

  1. EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT BE 20% DECREASE IN MILEAGE. WILL YOU REALLY GO CROSS COUNTRY IN A SPORTS CAR ON A EVERYDAY BASIS? …….. NO. I NOT CONCERNED SO MUCH WITH THAT BUT THE FACT THAT IT’S ACTUALLY HITTING THE MARKET. I EXPECT GREAT THINGS IN THE FUTURE FOR ELECTRIC SPORTS CARS.
  2. IF IT’S ONLY 200 MILES, NOT THAT I’M CONCERNED ABOUT THAT, BUT CAN’T YOU JUST REPLACE THE BATTERIES, LIKE A STAND ALONE CHARGING STATION. SO IF YOUR BATTERY RUNS LOW YOU CAN GO HOME AND SWAP BATTERIES AND CHARGE THE OTHER LIKE YOU DO WITH A ELECTRIC R/C CAR? I DON’T SEE WHY IT CAN BE DONE.
  3. Good point - sports cars really aren’t made for super long trips anyway.
I don’t think you can swap out batteries - I’d imagine the battery would be very large and heavy… though that’s just a guess.
  4. WELL THE REASON I BROUGHT UP THE SWAPABLE BATTRIES WAS BECAUSE ON A SITE I SAW HAD A ELECTRIC F-1 CAR AND A ACTUAL VIDEO OF A PIT CREW SWAPPING BATTERIES IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. AND IT GOT ME THINK, IF THEY CAN SWAPP BATTERIES WHY NOT WITH THIS CAR. ALL THOUGH THE BATTERY IS ONE UNIT AND NOT DIVIDED INTO MULTIPLE SECTORS. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD CONCEPT FOR THEM TO LOOK INTO.
  5. [...] the range of the Roadster has been increased back to the original estimates ( after a temporary decrease in estimated range ). According to the EPA, the range will be 252 miles city / 236 highway, for a combined rating of [...]
