SHOtime – 2010 Taurus SHO is a GO

2010-taurus-sho Though it’s been no secret, it’s great to see that Ford officially announced the 2010 Taurus SHO.  The first go-around of the Taurus SHO developed a cult-like following, and it’s great to see Ford revive an old hit.  Just like the original SHO, the 2010 SHO is a powerhouse sport sedan.   Perhaps the biggest difference is the pricing.  Base price on a 2010 Taurus SHO?  $37,995.

You can hear hands smacking foreheads all across the country, can’t you?  I’ll touch on the price later, but let’s set it aside for now.  What’s under the hood?  After all, that’s what really matters.

2010 Taurus SHO Specs

  • 365 HP Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V6
  • 350 lb-ft of torque
  • AWD
  • Six speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters
  • SHO-specific suspension
  • 19” wheels standard

Ok, the specs are phenomenal.  Huge power output from the Ecoboost V6, and AWD of course was a must.  Paddle shifter and upgraded suspension?  Now you’re talking.  The real question is, should Ford have done a Fusion SHO instead of a Taurus SHO?  The Fusion is smaller, lighter, and would serve better as a sport sedan.  It’s also several thousand dollars less expensive.  Excellent hardware aside, I don’t know how many buyers Ford will find for the 2010 Taurus SHO at a cool $38 grand plus TT&L.  Any thoughts?

I think the SHO Taurus is brilliant. 1st off, the entire launch is coming out at the same time (meaning standard Taurus and SHO), not letting people hang. 2nd, this fulfills the promise of the Mercury Marauder, in that the US has not had an explicit sport sedan (as opposed to coupe) since the Impala, Marauder, old SHO etc.

Whether the market is out there remains to be seen, but there are a lot of us (Ford Fans) who want a sports car, need some room (Mustang won’t cut it)and don’t want to buy a BMW. (Though Didge Charger is a good alternative).

Ahh the Maurader, how I miss that car. Perhaps the new Taurus SHO is more of a replacement for it, instead of the old Taurus SHO. A point I haven’t thought of – thanks for pointing it out.
