Recall Notice: 2010 Toyota Prius Brakes

Toyota is very quickly losing it’s bullet-proof reliability reputation.  First the whole gas pedal / unintended acceleration thing.  They’re still trying to figure that one out, by the way.  Now, Toyota announced that they’re recalling 270k of the 2010 Prius for a brake issue.  About 100k of these Prioria are in the United States.

The issue is a poor transistion between the regenerative brakes (the ones that charge the battery) and the traditional brakes.  Now granted, I don’t manufacture cars for a living.  But Toyota is having problems with both the gas pedal and the brakes.  These are the most basic functions of cars (no matter how advanced.)  If Toyota can’t seem to get these right, what else are they missing that we haven’t noticed yet?

Prius owners will be getting a notice in the mail soon.  A software update is in the works to fix the braking issue.
