Over 6,000 reserve a Nissan Leaf

2011 Nissan Leaf

It’s been less than a week since Nissan starting allowing certain customers to reserve their very own Leaf electric car. In that short time, over 6,000 customers have paid the $99 deposit to get their name on the list. That’s quite a lot, considering that Nissan is still limiting reservations to a select group of customers. Open reservations won’t begin until next month.

We know a lot more about the 2011 Leaf than we do about the Chevy Volt. For starters, we know that customers will start taking delivery in December of this year. For another, we actually know the price of the Leaf. Nissan even announced a lease special ( just $1999 down, $349 per month ). We still have no idea what the Volt is going to cost. Heck, I don’t even know if Chevy knows.

Anyway, I’m not bashing the Volt – I think it’s going to be an outstanding vehicle. It’s just that I really like how Nissan is handling the Leaf launch, and I’m not a fan of Chevy’s handling of the Volt launch.
