Nissan Recalls 650k Altimas and Sentras

If you’re the owner of a Nissan Altima or Sentra from MY 2002, 2005, or 2006, you may be getting that unlucky little notice in the mail. If you’re driving a 1.8 liter Sentra or 3.5 liter Altima you can sit back and relax – this recall affects only the 2.5 liter engines. The problem is that the engine may just decide to stop running at a random time – due to some sort of crankshaft position sensor problem. It all sounds a little Japanese to me, but not a good thing in any case.

Six hundred and fifty thousand vehicles is a whole freakin lot – and it’s really disappointing to see this come from Nissan. It’s no secret that Nissan’s quality has been slipping as of late, even if their design and product execution has been fantastic. These days it’s not as easy to mention Nissan in the same breath and Toyota and Honda. I hope that this is the last big recall we see from Nissan for awhile.

If you are driving an affected vehicle, you should get the notice within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Your local dealer will, of course, fix the problem at no cost to you.
