Latest on the rumormill is that the Mazda RX-9 is currently in the works. The RX-9 would, of course, replace the current RX-8. The plans include an updated twin-rotor Wankel engine, with a total displacement of 1.6 liters ( up from the current 1.3 liter design ). The horsepower goal is 270 HP, while also cutting emissions and fuel consumption by 20%. A lofty goal, if ever there was one. Remember, rotary engines aren’t exactly efficient by design.
No pictures yet ( sorry! ), but it’s good to hear that Mazda isn’t going to let the RX-8 linger around too much longer. RX-9 could be fun – but where’s my RX-7?
