Lotus Evora Unveiled

2010-Lotus-Evora No longer under codename Eagle, the Lotus Evora was revealed to the public today.  At first glance, there’s no question it’s a Lotus.  The styling is loud, and it’s not ashamed of that fact.  It definitely shares some design cues from little brother Elise.  What’s so special about the Evora?  It’s a 2+2 midengined vehicle.  That’s right – seating for 2 adults, 2 little people, and the engine right behind.

While that’s a surprising layout ( I can’t think of another car set up that way, actually ), it’s not the most surprising thing about the Evora.  That would be the curb weight.  Lotus cars are known for being featherweights – that’s how they handle so well, and generally get away with small engines.  The Evora weighs in at a meaty 2967 lbs – almost obese for a Lotus.  That being said, it’s quite light for a 2+2 sports car, and should stack up well vs it’s competition.  Lotus only plans on building 2000 Evoras per year – so if you want one, you’d better get one pre-ordered soon.  Oh, and expect to pony up some cash – it won’t come cheap.
