How much would you pay for Chevy Volt?
The Chevy Volt is still 2+ years away from production, yet the buzz around it is incredible. A car that has a 40 mile electric range, and comes with a regular gas engine / gas tank for long trips? All for under $30 grand? Sounds like a dream come true. Well, there’s the problem. That $30k pricetag is looking more and more impossible as time goes on. These days Bob Lutz is looking at closer to $40k - that’s quite a stretch from $30k.
If Chevy can bring the Volt to market by 2010, and it delivers hardware as promised, it can be a huge hit. But only in the very very low 30k range. This car has to be a volume car, so that GM can start mass production of battery packs. Mass production will bring part costs down, so that the Volt can become profitable. But it all begins with getting enough volume. So I ask you this - what would you pay for a Chevy Volt?
