Whether the worldwide tally of recalls would show Toyota/Honda to be worse than usual, I'm not sure. The statement about the child in the front seat makes this "recall" stand out, however. Recall has become such a terrifying word, like cancer. But even as cancer can equate to many different strands, levels, and varying degrees of seriousness, so can recall. And fortunately for Honda and it's <a href="http://goodcarbadcar.blogspot.com/2007/12/good-12-part-v.html" rel="nofollow">Good 12-winning Fit</a>, this one appears to be pre-cancerous and completely removable.
