GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook DOA

The General issued an immediate “stop-sell” to all it’s dealers on two of it’s most anticipated models in recent memory - the GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. Here’s the details of the message -

Message: “Attention ALL Saturn Retailers and GMC Dealers […] This is to advise Saturn Retailers and GMC Dealers that we are issuing an immediate stop sale on all Saturn OUTLOOK models and GMC Acadia models in dealer inventory as well as in transit to the dealer. In order to maintain our momentum and successful launch of these products, we are evaluating potential enhancement and inventory upgrade to the vehicles. More details will be forthcoming on Monday, December 11, 2006. […] Thank you for your immediate attention and cooperation in this matter.”

I’ll leave my thoughts on these two ‘crossovers’ for another post. The main point is, every time you think GM has done something right, they mess it up somehow. A late launch is infinitely better than a ’stop sell’ on a brand new product. Come on GM… you’ve got to get it together at some point.

  1. The issue has been addressed and assembly and sales have resumed. The stop sale order lasted slightly more that 3 days, and was before any vehicles had been delivered.
  2. Very quick - and good that it was handled before any retail deliveries.
