GM wants $7k Tax Credit for Volt

However, if John McCain becomes the next president ( unlikely at this point ), he’ll push for a $5k credit.  I’d love to see a big, fat tax credit on the Volt, since the MSRP keeps spiraling upward as the deadline approaches.  If GM wants to actually sell any of these cars, a big tax credit will be crucial.  $5k wouldn’t hurt by any means, but $7k would be fantastic.  $40k - $7k tax credit = $33k.  Still a ton of cash for the Volt, but more realistic to the average Joe.

  1. They should give a 10K tax credit. The Volt should sell more and GM a major employer of workers in America might not go under.
  2. I’d be surprised to see such a high credit, but I would support it. GM has made some really awful decisions over the years, but the Volt could pretty much turn it around at once.
