GM Putting the brakes on Corvette Production

Trucks, large SUV’s - sure, stop building them.  But Corvettes?  The plastic fantastic American Sportscar?  A no-BS American Icon?  I didn’t see this coming.

GM announced that they will take a week off from building the Corvette beginning October 6th.  Once the week off is over, they’ll lay off roughly 75 workers, and slow down the output.  The idea is to keep a glut of Corvettes from coming to market.  After all, the economy isn’t in the best shape these days - in case you haven’t noticed.

Looking at it overall, I guess it’s not a bad move after all.  Corvettes are a premium product, and you can’t very well have dozens of Vettes across the lot.  When there are more Corvettes than Cobalts, the premium idea ( and price ) would be hard to maintain.
