Ford loses $14.6 Billion in 2008

Ford Logo The final numbers are in for Ford, and they’re not good.  For the entire year of 2008, Ford posted an incredible $14.6 Billion loss.  $5.9 billion of that loss came in the 4th quarter – when the stuff was really hitting the fan.  This performance was worse than 2007, when Ford managed to lose $11.8 billion.  2009, of course, is not looking any better.

As it sits, Ford is the only domestic automaker not accepting loans from Uncle Sugar Sam.  Both GM and Chrysler are taking every dollar they can get from the government.  Ford’s financial moves last year have it in a slightly better position, where they aren’t yet required to take a handout.  They have some great new cars hitting the market these days – hopefully that will help put them back on the right track fast enough.
