Dodge Demon Concept

Dodge Demon Concept side Boy, the small, affordable roadster market sure is getting crowded.  Just a couple years ago, it consisted of the Mazda Miata.  Now we have the Miata ( renamed the MX-5 ), Pontiac Solstice, and Saturn Sky.  Dodge wants in on the game too, and their entry is still a concept – meet the Dodge Demon Concept.

Not that I need to say it, but what a horrible name.  Who would want to drive the Demon?  Imagine bringing it home to your wife – ‘Hey Honey, I brought a Demon home!’

I just don’t see that going well, except with the Satanic crowd.  I’m not sure how big of a market they really are, though.  Perhaps Dodge will re-think this poor name before officially announcing the roadster in Geneva.

Enough with the name, on to the looks.  From the side, the Demon looks like a Honda S2000, with a little attitude.  I like the side view very much, and I think Dodge did a good job there.  In typical Dodge fashion, they smashed a Dodge Ram grille and glued it to the front, which predictably, looks horrible.  Really, really, bad job there.  The back end reminds of me of another car, but I’m having trouble placing it for some reason…. whatever it is, the back is so-so.  I don’t really care for it, but it wouldn’t dissuade me from buying, if I were in the market for such a car.  The front absolutely would.  Can someone PLEASE tell Dodge that not every vehicle with the Dodge badge needs to have the Dodge Ram grille?  This is a small roadster folks, not a pickemup truck.  They’re supposed to look different.

Dodge Demon Concept Preliminary Specs

  • 172 HP / 165 lb-ft of torque 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine
  • Rear wheel drive ( of course )
  • Six speed manual transmission standard
  • Curb weight estimated to be ~2600 lbs

Dodge Demon Concept front The specs aren’t earth-shattering, but remember, this is supposed to be affordable.  It fits right in with the class it’s competing in, and hopefully Dodge can keep the weight low.  That is, of course, the key to handling.

Overall, the Demon has potential, if Dodge is willing to work on it.  First, rename the thing.. anything but Demon.  Call it Fuzz Bunny or whatever, but not Demon.  Next, get rid of the Ram grille and be creative for once.  You copied the S2000 for the side, so go ahead and do the same on the front if you must.  Anything is better than the current look.
