Chrysler to cut production

Finally Chrysler got the memo - don’t build more cars than you can sell! The rest of the industry figured this out long ago, but the big cheese at Chrysler must’ve been out golfing our something. Anyway, Chrysler announced plans to cut production effective immediately, through early 2007 - something they desperately needed to do.

Chrysler will still be pumping out their high-demand cars ( such as the Intrepid and Stratus, ooooh! My dream cars ) , but they will be slowing output of their poorly selling trucks, SUV’s, and minivans. Chrysler did not say how far back they will cut production, which makes one wonder if it’s a merely symbolic move. Source.

  1. Chrysler will build only 1,000 units each next month of the midsize Dodge Dakota pickup, Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, 300 sedan and the Aspen SUV Chrysler. Hmmmm, cutting production seems the trend recently - for the domestic automakers that is.
  2. Ouch - that’s some low volume there. The Dakota and Grand Cherokee are way behind the times, and trail their competitors badly. And of course the Aspen is about 6 years too late… I haven’t the slightest clue why Chrysler spent the money to bring that vehicle to market. First of all, the Durango is simply awful, and no vehicle should ever be based off of it. Second, the SUV market is very poor right now - what were those guys thinking?
