The US Federal Government gives each new hybrid a tax credit of varying amounts – depending on a number of factors. House Resolution 6899 contained a sneaky little provision granting purchases of the Chevy Volt a whopping $5,000 tax credit. That is, to my knowledge, the largest tax credit available for any vehicle. I personally would have liked to see it even higher – I badly want the Volt to succeed. However, the Feds just gave the American public five thousand great reasons to buy a Volt. Score one for GM.
