Even before the Chevy Volt has hit the ground (or even had a solid price announced) Chevy revealed another car based on the Volt architecture. The Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept is a crossover type vehicle based on the Volt’s underpinnings. In fact, the MPV5 even uses the exact same powertrain – a 150 HP 4 cylinder engine coupled with a motor / 16 KWH battery.
Since this is a much larger vehicle than the Volt, electric-only range has been reduced from 40 miles to 32 miles. If you need the extra space, then that’s probably a good trade-off.
Despite having plenty of styling cues from the Volt (which I’m a big fan of), the MPV5 doesn’t come off as a very attractive vehicle. It’s still in concept form though, and we all know how much a concept car can change before production. And there’s also the possibility that Chevy won’t build this car – it all depends on how the public receives it. What do you think of the MPV5?
