Get a Tesla Model S for Free

Jason Calacanis, founder of Weblongs, Inc, CEO of Mahalo, and proud owner of a Tesa Roadster, is doing something unprecedented.  He’s giving away a brand new Tesla Model S.  We’re talking about a $50,000 all-electric, revolutionary vehicle here.  For free.

OK, what’s the catch?  Well, of course there’s a catch.  See, Jason started a new Twitter account, @auto.  If Jason can get more followers on @auto than any other Twitter account, the Model S goes on the giveaway block.  So far, this account has just over 10k users.  That’s nothing to sneeze at in the Twitter world, but he has quite a way to go.  After all, the current leader Ashton Kutcher sits at over 4 million users.  That’s a long way to go, but Jason has a history of getting things done.  If you want a chance at the free Tesla Model S, follow @auto, and tell everyone you know.

Tesla Model S Unveiled

Like the Tesla Roadster, the Model S is an all-electric car.  No range extenders, no hybrid powertrains, just 100% electric powered.  At first glance, the Model S looks like an elegant combination of a Maserati and an Aston Martin ( rear view ).  In other words, gorgeous, and befitting of what a ~$50,000 car should look like.  Oh, did I spoil the surprise?  With the expected $7,500 tax credit figured in, Tesla is expecting the Model S to start at $49,900.  That’s for a base model, with a 160 mile range battery pack.  You do have the option of a 230 mile or 300 mile pack – for a price.

Tesla Model S Specs

  • Up to 300 miles on a single charge
  • Base price under $50,000
  • 0-60 MPH in under 6 seconds
  • 17″ in dash touchscreen
  • Single speed transmission
  • 3G connectivity available
  • Swappable battery pack
  • Charge in as little as 45 minutes ( 480 volts )

Not sure what I’m more excited about – looks, speed, range, price, or gadgets.  The Model S seems to hit just about all of my hot buttons.  Now if only I had $50 large to spend on a car…..
