Porsche has released the first official photos of the 2012 911. Casual observers (and indeed, some seasoned car guys) would never notice, but the 911 is all new for 2012. In typical Porsche fashion, the exterior design is a slight evolution of the iconic 911. Anyone with eyes will recognize this as a Porsche, which is the way it should be.

Gorgeous good looks aside, (Sure, it’s an evolution, but it’s an evolution of one of the most gorgeous car designs ever to grace the roads) there are some new goodies that you can’t see. For starters, the German engineers put the 911 on a diet. The 2012 911 weights 99 lbs less than the 2011, thanks in big part to an aluminum-steel body.

HCP 2012 Porsche 911 Specs

350 HP 3.4 liter flat six

Available 400 HP 3.8 liter flat six (Carrera S)

Seven speed manual transmission (dual-clutch PDK auto available)

The Carrera S can do the 0–60MPH sprint in 4.3 seconds. Yikes. The “base” 911 can do it in 4.6, which isn’t exactly a snail’s pace. Along with all that power, Porsche is expecting a 34 MPG highway rating.[1]

Ridiculous power. Fantastic acceleration. Sublime handling. Amazing good looks. Porsche price tag. Yeah, you had to know that was coming. The base Carrera will start at a cool $82,100, which is up $4300 from last year. If you absolutely must have those extra 50 horses, be prepared to drop an additional $14,300 for them, as the Carrera S starts at $96,400.

That’s right, the absurdly fast SUV from Porsche is officially SUV of the year. Considering the fact that Porsche dropped 400 lbs with the second generation Cayenne, while adding power, that’s not terribly surprising.

In top trim, the Cayenne Turbo puts out 500 HP from it’s twin-turbo V8, and blows through the quarter mile in an astonishing 12.8 seconds. It’s no one-trick pony either – it pulls .95 G on the skidpad.

It’s that breadth of performance capability, combined with the Cayenne’s roomy and comfortable interior and reasonably capacious cargo hold, that helped it nail our performance of intended function criteria. With strong showings in the engineering excellence and efficiency areas, attractive exterior and thoughtful interior design, a full roster of active and passive safety gear and the value rating fig leaf of the V-6′s affordable opening price, the Cayenne won over the thoughtful adults as well as the boy-racers to win by a supermajority.

All this awesomenesss doesn’t come cheap, of course. The Cayenne Turbo starts at a whopping $105k, and acn be optioned out to over $168k. While that’s a huge sum of money, where else can you get supercar performance with the utility of an SUV?

Make no mistake about it, the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful Porsche ever built. (Yes, that includes the famed Carrera GT.) In a long line of ridiculously fast 911′s, the 2011 GT2 RS is the fastest, most powerful yet. The specs are absolutely ridiculous – particularly the 620 HP figure. I won’t keep you waiting – here are the important specs:

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Specs

620 HP 3.6 liter twin-turbo flat 6 (Up 90 HP)

Curb weight: 3021 lbs (Down 154)

0-62 MPH in 3.5 seconds

Top speed: 205 MPH

Laps the Nurburgring in 7 minutes, 18 seconds.

A drastic power increase coupled with a 154 pound diet makes for ridiculous speed. Calling this car fast just doesn’t do it justice. It even topped the Corvette ZR1 around the ‘Ring, which is a pretty incredible feat.

Porsche will only build 500 of the 2011 GT2 RS, so if you want one, you’ll need to jump on it quickly. It should go without saying that you’ll need exceptionally deep pockets to actually buy one. US pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the starting price in Euros will be $237,578. As of today, that translates to just over $300k US, though that doesn’t mean we’ll see quite that high of a price tag.

Check out an awesome video filled with Porsche goodness, and a picture gallery after the jump.

Well if this is not heart breaking for car enthusiasts, I don’t what is. The other day I went on youtube searching for some videos of cars getting crushed, most was old cars which the materials were worth more than the car itself. But this one video sadden my heart, Some artist nut crushed a fairly new Porsche”Carrera” 997 or aka Porsche 911 on purpose down to a cube for the sake of um……art?!!! Wow! I always wanted to see a $78k block piece of mangled German engineereing at a art museum…… NO!!!

The car alone is art! Cruising down the street as it takes a stroll down Broadway. Hearing it’s melody while screaming down the track ripping corners as photographers capture it’s pure essence of sheer beauty and power is ART. NOT a cube sitting in a mundane art museum. Though I’m not a big Porsche fan, but after I saw this video I felt my heart was ripped out, a part of me went with the poor car, helpless and defenseless against the mighty crusher. Sorry but that car didn’t deserve this punishment for the sake of art, and let’s not forget they aren’t cheap either. What a waste of a great car, good job you idiot.
If you want that kind of art, just go to a scrap yard, they have plenty of those hanging around. Jeez man, what people do with there money these days is beyond me.

Here’s two video links, one in raw audio w/German if you can understand what they are saying and the other has the audio swapped with dramatic music so you don’t have to bare to listen to car’s gusts being squished.

WARNING !
Viewer descretion is advised it’s not for the weak in heart, especially Porsche fans or car fanatics.

The third-generation Cayenne is now officially announced, for the world to see. The verdict?

It looks awesome. What else did you expect? The 2011 Cayenne is definitely an evolutionary design – in other words, typical Porsche. It’s unquestionably a Cayenne, which means it’s dead sexy for an SUV. I know that Porsche purists still get their panties in a bunch when they think of / see a Cayenne, but the rest of us have gotten over it. In the world of SUV’s, the Cayenne is as bad-ass as you get.

2011 Porsche Cayenne Specs

300 HP V6 (Entry level

Available 400 HP 4.8 liter V8 (S model)

Available 500 HP twin turbo 4.8 liter V8 (Turbo model)

2011 Cayenne Hybrid – Supercharged 3.0 liter V6 hooked up to a 47 HP electric motor. Total output: 380 HP / 427 lb-ft of torque

400 pound weight drop for Cayenne S

Much of the same in the engines – except for the introduction of the 2011 Cayenne Hybrid. Interestingly, Porsche used a supercharged V6 as the base engine. The end product manages to put out nearly 400 horsepower, so I suppose I won’t complain too loudly. No word on fuel economy estimates at this point.

That’s quite the swing from the prior years’s $12.8 billion profit.

Surely most of that loss is due to the Volkswagen debacle. Porsche executives maintain that their operating margin was still in the double digit range. Since they haven’t released an official financial statement, that can’t yet be verified. In any case, an $18 billion swing in a single year is ugly, even in these times.

Love the Cayenne ( that’s me ) or hate it ( most Porsche purists ), it has helped Porsche maintain it’s status as one of the most profitable automakers in the world. Strong profits help make the Boxter, Cayman, and all the 911 flavors better and better. So I say, bring on a fresh new Cayenne, and the profits that come with it. Sadly, though, I won’t be buying one any time in the near future.

How does 550 HP sound? Porsche managed to squeeze an extra 50 ponies from that same turbocharged 4.8 liter mill. That’s enough to send this hefty SUV to 60 MPH from a dead stop in, oh, 4.7 seconds. That’s “stupid fast”, for the record.

The problem? During driving, the engine may move slightly, and cause the fuel line to rub, which can wear the line. Eventually it could cause leakage, which isn’t something you want going on under the hood. So Porsche will be re-routing the fuel line in these vehicles to keep this situation from presenting itself.
