Though I wrote yesterday that the $7,000 Hummer H3 rebate was coming to an end, GM decided to go and prove me wrong. It seems they aren’t too happy about the 50%+ drop in sales over on the Hummer side. To try to help things along, they’ve decided to extend that $7k rebate through the end of July. Not really much of a surprise when you get right down to it.

Also announced is the extension of 72 month 0% financing. The “new” expiration date for this financing firesale is July 7th – though I’d lay money on GM pushing that date out even further. With sales on most of their brands tanking in a colossal way ( with Hummer at the forefront ), mind-blowing incentives is really the only option left to GM. It’s really nothing more than trying to use a band-aid to fix a severed limb. It will hold things back for a short while, but the dam will break, and it will be ugly. Chapter 11 bankruptcy is looming in the future, and there’s nothing GM can do to stop it.

Hi there – could you help spread the word about Houston Cars? I could really use your help in getting my work out to new readers. If you would send someone a link, email, or even mention it to your friends, I would appreciate it.

Of course, you’ll have to buy a Hummer, which is a big downside. Horrific fuel economy isn’t exactly fun, either. Unprecedentedly awful resale value rounds out the bad side of things. If the good wins over the bad for you, then hurry! The incentive is scheduled to run out today.

This is a day that I thought would never come. A Hummer vehicle that I actually like. The Hummer HX Concept takes the Hummer idea and mashes it with the Jeep Wrangler to create something, well, incredible. The result of this mashing of ideas is a compact off-road beast with stunning no-nonsense looks. No will will mistake this for anything but a Hummer, and it just looks ready for some mud. Front and rear overhangs are very short to keep departure and approach angles high. Oh, did I mention the roof, fenders, and doors are all removable?

The HX Concept would be the first “green” Hummer too. That is, if you believe in ethanol as a green energy source, which I absolutely don’t. The engine is a 304 HP 3.6 liter flex-fuel direct injected V6, hooked up to a 6 speed automatic. Reportedly max power only comes when running on ethanol, though at the cost of fuel economy plummeting. Your call, I guess. There’s a pair of back seats that brings total seating to four, but I wouldn’t want to sit back there any more than I would in a Wrangler.

Will the Hummer HX come to market?

No clue. With the recent CAFE bill passed, any gas guzzler concepts are risky to produce. If GM can manage to make this puppy get halfway reasonable mileage, then they need to build it. The Wrangler has been unopposed for far too long, and the HX is the perfect competitor.

GM confirmed that they will build the horrid Hummer H3T, due as a 2009 model in Q3 of 2008. Earlier this year the H3T was caught hiding under camouflage. I hadn’t heard any more about it until now, and I was hoping that it fell into the depths of hell, never to see the daylight of production. Unfortunately GM’s product planners and beancounters didn’t heed my wishes, and the H3T will be built.

Expect to have your choice of the I5 or 5.3 liter V8, if you ( for some reason ) want to pickup up the newest Baby Hummer Truck. Seriously, don’t, though.

The latest creation from the most un-green automotive brand in the world is the 2009 Hummer H3T. Pickuptruck.com managed to snag some spy shots of this baby Hummer truck.

Much like the Hummer H2 SUT, the H3T is basically an H3 with a small truck bed slapped onto the back. The bed will be approximately 4 feet by 4 feet. I’m not sure exactly how useful a 4 foot long truck bed is. No, scratch that. A four foot long truck bed is utterly useless in every way. You can’t put anything in there that you couldn’t carry in the cargo area of an SUV.

For some reason or another, Hummer is convinced that they can move 35,000 of these little guys yearly, and that’s how many they plan to build. Even with the new 295 HP V8 available in the H3T, I’d be surprised if they can manage to sell that many.
