Chrysler reneging on $4 Billion in TARP Loans

The TARP loans given to Chrysler and GM were never intended to be loans, despite what lawmakers and auto executives would have you believe. It was always the government’s intention to give this money to the automakers – knowing all along that they would never see the money again. The only reason the government masqueraded [...]

Chrysler aims to be quality leader by 2012

I couldn’t make this up. Chrysler Group LLC has a stated goal of being a “quality leader” by the end of 2012. That’s just barely three years away folks. I hate to break it to you Chrysler, but a company doesn’t go from “utter crap” to “best of the best” in 3 years, no matter [...]

Highlights from the Chrysler Marathon

Two days ago, Chrysler held what may be the longest press conference in world history. OK, maybe not *the* longest, but it was pretty farking long. They talked about, well, anything and everything Chrysler related. Problems, plans, goals, you name it. Here are just a few of the things I think are worth mentioning:

Chrysler plans [...]

New Chrysler Logo

Well, there it is. The all new Chrysler logo for an all new Chrysler. I’m so in awe of this shiny new logo that I feel the urge to go buy a Sebring. That’s the idea, right?

GM Bankruptcy and the Changing US Automotive Industry

Yesterday General Motors officially entered Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection – which came as no surprise to anyone.  After having a day or so to digest the facts, I’m very saddened by what the US automotive industry has come to.  When Government Motors ( the new name? ) emerges from bankruptcy, the United States government will [...]

Black Thursday and Friday

The past two days have been dark ones for the domestic auto industry.  On Thursday, Chrysler, LLC made a powerful announcement – they would not be renewing franchise agreements for 789 Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep dealerships.  The list was made publicly available, and can be viewed here.
To follow up that bad news, GM announced [...]

Chrysler files for Bankruptcy

None other than The Great Obama himself announced it, to top it all off.  Chrysler, LLC is officially under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.  Just to clarify, this is a “restructuring” type of bankruptcy, not the liquidation that occurs in Chapter 7.
This bankruptcy is, of course, with the blessing of the United States government.  [...]

Chrysler submits Viability Plan

After GM’s weak ( and stunning ) viability plan, I’m almost loathe to critique Chrysler’s plan.  But that’s what I do, so let’s take a look at the highlights.

An extra $2 billion in loans ( bringing the total to $9 billion )
Hangs on a pending alliance with Fiat
Reduce fixed costs by $700 million
Axe 3,000 more [...]

2010 Chrysler 300 Pics

Along with Chrysler’s new Viability plan, they released a couple snapshots of the next-generation 2010 Chrysler 300.  As you can see, it looks, well, almost exactly like the current-generation Chrysler 300.  Not that that’s a bad thing.  I was just expecting, well… something a little more.  Surely they could have found something to change, [...]

Chrysler taking a month off

Production cuts aren’t strange in this new automotive world.  They’re the norm, really.  But for a large automaker to take an entire month off from building any cars – that’s stunning.  All Chrysler employees at all Chrysler factories ( that, of course, includes Dodge and Jeep as well ) will head home Friday Dec [...]
