I’m not sure there’s much sense in a $55k Camaro. Sure, it’ll destroy a quarter mile in 12 seconds. Sure, you can hit sixty from a stop in 3.9. And yes, if you’re crazy enough, you can top out at 184 MPH.

Screw it. This car is really, really badass.

There will be a 2013 Trailblazer, confirmed by General Motors. The teaser image you see is proof of that, though you can’t really see much. The all new Trailblazer will be built on top of the next generation Chevy Colorado platform. GM plans to unveil this all-new SUV in Dubai on November 10, 2011.

There’s no clear word at this point on whether we’ll see the new Trailblazer here in the US. All GM is saying at this point is that it will be available “in global markets” starting with Taiwain, in early 2012.

Where does the Trailblazer fit in?

From a purely technical standpoint, there is a midsize hole in Chevy’s SUV offerings. They have the Tahoe for full-size buyers, and the Suburban for ginormous-size buyers. The Trailblazer would slot in below the Tahoe… though I’m not sure there’s enough of a market here. A true midsize CUV would likely be a better fit given today’s market. Does the world need yet another midsize body-on-frame people hauler?

Porsche is getting crazy with their manual transmissions, offering a seven speed manual on the 2012 911. Chevy isn’t going to let the Germans keep all the crazy, so they’re planning to add an extra gear to the 2014 C7 Corvette.

That’s right, the 2014 Corvette will have a seven speed manual transmission available. That’s a whole lotta shifting. Well, it depends on what Chevy does to the current gears. If they make 7th gear a sort of triple-overdrive, then we could see the already high Corvette gas mileage shoot into the stratosphere. More likely is that they’ll tighten up the other ratios, and keep the double-overdrive setup.

Back when word of the new Super Camaro, the ZL1, came out, it was thought to be packing a mere 550 horsepower. Chevy decided not to release that embarrassment of a vehicle, and upped the ante. The 2012 Camaro ZL1 will officially have a whopping 580 horsepower. That’s right, five hundred and eight ponies from the supercharged 6.2 liter V8. That’s 30 more than the biggest rival, the Shelby GT500. No doubt, this is why Chevy scrambled to find a few more horses.

Droolworthy power is an understatement, really. This thing is bordering on ridiculous in the horsepower department. The only problem is one of weight. The modern Camaro is a hefty little guy, of course. But dress one up in ZL1 trim and it works out to approximately 4200 pounds. Yikes.

Seriously though, that’s a lot of power.

580 horsepower, 556 lb-ft of torque. Even with the extra weight… this thing will be blindingly fast.

You read that headline right. A diesel Chevy Cruze is coming to the US for the 2013 model year. As in the European version, the expected engine is a 2.0 liter turbodiesel four cylinder, with expected EPA ratings in the 40′s.

I’m still torn on the prospects of diesel powered cars here in the US. They get great fuel economy when compared to regular gas engines, which is a huge plus. The run absolutely forever, which is another huge plus. And they make obscene amounts of torque. What’s the problem, then?

The smell.

Yes, diesels have gotten better in the smell department. A modern VW TDI doesn’t smell anything like an old Ford SuperDuty. But it still smells vile. I’m not really sure I want to see millions of diesel-exhausts-spewing cars on the streets here. What say you?

The much-heralded Aveo replacement, the 2012 Sonic, finally has a price. One of these shiny new little gas sippers can be yours for as little as $14,495. If, of course, you’re interested in the regular-ol sedan. A hatchback will set you back an extra $900.

As previously noted, that small price tag will get you a 138 HP naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine and a handshaker. Considering the fact that one can buy a Nissan Versa for under eleven grand… call me unimpressed. Remember the days when domestic cars sold at a discount compared to imports? Apparently Chevy doesn’t.

(And before I get the hate comments… yes I know the $11k Versa is a stripper. The Sonic has a more powerful engine and has more equipment. It should cost more… I’m just not sure that $3500 more makes much sense.)

You see that? It’s my face turning bright red. See, I was quite wrong about the reason behind the 2012 Chevy Volt price drop. I had originally figured the reason was due to cheaper component prices / manufacturing efficiency. Turns out, I didn’t do my homework.

Chevy actually cut quite a bit of standard equipment from the 2012 Volt.

According to The Motley Fool, both the navigation system and Bose audio system are now optional. That’s $2500 worth of equipment, but the MSRP only dropped by $1k. That, my friends, is sneaky.

Hat tip to my best reader, who wishes to remain anonymous.
