2011 Cadillac SRX Recall

GM has decided to recall a cool 47k of it’s 2011 Cadillac SRX due to airbag issues. Specifically, one of the modules may not be programmed correctly. This means the right-side curtain airbag may actually be deactivated if there is no front passenger. The problem, of course, is that someone sitting in the rear passenger seat would be unprotected if there is a crash.

Dealers will reprogram this module at no cost to customers, as usual. Recall notifications should start hitting mailboxes within the next week.

Cadillac XLR – It’s been nice knowing you

2009-cadillac-xlr-v The latest vehicle to get the axe is the Luxo-Corvette , sorry I mean Cadillac XLR.  A luxury, wildly styled car based on the excellent Corvette hardware – what’s not to like?  Nothing, really.  The XLR ( and especially the XLR-V ) was an excellent vehicle.  Unfortunately, it’s apparently not a profitable vehicle.  And with GM in the position that it’s in, profitability is all that really matters.

So long, XLR – we won’t forget you.

2009 Cadillac CTS-V priced at $59,995

2009-cadillac-cts-vCadillac’s super sedan finally has a price tag attached to it.  With a base price of $59,995, the unofficial “four door Corvette” is a ridiculous bargain.  Wait, did I just call a sixty thousand dollar car a bargain?  You better believe it.  Remember, this car has a version of the Corvette ZR-1 engine, putting out 556 HP.  And, you get to enjoy every one of those 556 ponies for a cool $40 grand less than a Corvette ZR1. 

Unmatched performance.  Four doors.  Practicality.  Bargain-basement price.  This car is one of a kind….  Even in this market, with the economy in the crapper, I’d wager that GM won’t have any trouble moving these puppies.

2010 Cadillac SRX Preview

2010-cadillac-srx Do you remember the Cadillac Provoq concept from a few months back?  If so, you’ll probably think this picture looks familiar.  Indeed, the Provoq is coming to market as the 2010 SRX.  While we don’t have specs yet, Cadillac was kind enough to provide us with a few pictures to mull over.  First impressions?  It’s a pretty good looking vehicle.  Think upscale Chevy Equinox meets sports car.  But not ugly.  That probably doesn’t make much sense…..

The basic profile is very reminiscent of the Equinox, which isn’t a bad thing.  The fender vent / grooves are probably better placed on a sports car, but they’ll do.  Overall the package is very Cadillac, and pretty darn nice looking.  With the introduction of the CTS Sportwagon though, does Cadillac need two players in this segment?  Once we get wind of the specs ( beyond the expected 3.6 liter V6 engine ), we’ll be sure to pass them along.

2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid to start at $71,685

Sadly, that is not a typo.  Some bigshot exec at GM gave this $71k Caddy the green light – and I can’t for the life of me figure out why.  In case you’re doing the math, that $71,685 is darn near $15k more than a base model Escalade.  Sure, 20 MPG in the city is far better than the gas only 12….. but fifteen grand buys a whole hell of a lot of gas. 

Plus, since when does a glorified Chevy Tahoe command over 70 large?  That’s Lexus money, Mercedes-Benz money.  It’s not Cadillac money ( XLR-V notwithstanding ).  It’s certainly not Tahoe money.  Sure, GM will probably move a few to image conscious celebrities who want to “look” green.  Though 20 MPG isn’t exactly green in today’s world.  But no doubt some overpaid celebs will trade in their Prius’s ( Prii? ) for Hybrid Escalades.  Beyond that, I don’t see a market for this thing.

2009 Cadillac CTS-V Final Specs

2009-cadillac-cts-v GM finally got around to announcing the official specs for the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V.  And they’re even better than we were hoping for.  No beating around the bush on this one – take a look:

  • 556 HP Supercharged 6.2 liter V8
  • 551 lb-ft of torque
  • 0-60 MPH in 3.9 seconds
  • 1/4 mile in 12 seconds
  • Top speed: 191 MPH with the 6 speed

What else could I possibly say to top that?

2009 Cadillac XLR-V

2009-cadillac-xlr-v Jalopnik managed to snag a shot of the upcoming 2009 Cadillac XLR-V.  If you’re not up on Cadillac-speak, “V” means really farking fast.  The current XLR-V makes do with a 443 HP 4.4 liter Northstar V8.  The big question on the 09 XLR-V is this – will it stick with the blown Northstar, or use the supercharged 6.2 liter V8 from the CTS-V?  It would almost seem ridiculous to use a smaller, less powerful engine than it’s cheaper sibling in the Caddy lineup.  For that reason, I’m voting for the supercharged 6.2 – what do you think?

2009 Cadillac XLR Spy Shots

2009-Cadillac-XLR The fine car blog that is Jalopnik got their hands on the first shots of the  2009 Cadillac XLR – Caddy’s Corvette-based roadster.  The current XLR is a re-worked C5 Corvette, so the 2009 XLR is going to be based on the new C6.  Better chassis, more power, same sexed-up body.  Buyers of the XLR also get a folding hardtop instead of the normal ragtop in the Corvette convertible.  We will know hard specs this summer, but expect a base 430ish horsepower, just like the Corvette.  We’ll also see an XLR-V if we’re lucky, with 500+ ponies under the hood.  That is a Caddy I can get on board with.
