January 2009 Auto Sales Numbers

January’s dismal numbers have been posted in detail elsewhere, but I wanted to hit on a couple of the highlights. First the good news (  you remember what good news is, don’t you? ):

Normally at the beginning of a new month, I highlight the best and worst brands with regards to monthly sales.  This time around, I can’t do that.  Why, you ask?  Well, every single automaker saw sales tank.  That’s right, every one of them.

August Sales Numbers

Down, down down.  That sums up August for nearly every major automaker.  Double digit losses across the board were the norm – though some escaped with “only” single digit drops.  The domestic losses were epic in some cases.  Let’s see the highlights:

June 2008 Sales Numbers

Two items pretty much sum this one up:
Hummer sales down 54%.
Honda sales up 18%.
People are buying smaller, fuel efficient cars, while avoiding the pigs.  Imagine that.  A few more of the failures for June:
Acura down 16% – New models might help things soon
Buick down 34% – The buyers are dying off
