The president of Honda, Takanobu Ito, has big plans for the Fit. He is expecting to see nearly a tripling in Fit sales over the next four years. In 2011, Honda moved 64,177 Fits, and Ito wants to see that number up over 200,000.
That’s a lofty goal, to be sure. The Fit is nice, but I’m not sure where the additional 140,000 buyers are coming from. Part of the plan is better pricing – Honda will be building the Fit in Mexico soon. Cars built in Japan over the last few years have had competitive pricing issues due to the strong yen. Building the Fit outside of Japan helps ease this quite a bit.
Still, I’ll file this under “I will believe it when I see it.”
