65,000 Hyundai Elantras Recalled
Attention owners of 2008 Hyundai Elantras equipped with the 2.0 liter “Beta” engine - Hyundai will be mailing you a letter soon. This recall affects roughly 65,000 Elantras - not a small number given Hyundai’s sales numbers. What’s the big deal, you wonder? Nothing horrible, actually. Ethanol present in gasoline ( such as the E10 sold pretty much everywhere ) can cause a film buildup inside the fuel pump. Theoretically this could cause hesitation while driving. No accidents have been reported, and it’s doubtful there would be. Good job Hyundai, on reporting the problem anyway.

That being said, there are so many thousands of things that need to happen for an automobile to reach production. Small issues like this one are bound to slip through from time to time. The fact that Hyundai chose not to stuff it under the rug is commendable, I think. Since there were no accidents/ injuries, they probably could’ve gotten away with it. Instead they did the right thing and came forward.
