According to Auto Express, Mazda is working on a new, smaller CUV – the CX-3. It will slot in under the compact (and quite popular) CX-5. That makes it a subcompact CUV – think Nissan Juke.
Power will come from a tiny 1.3 liter turbocharged engine, likely branded as SkyActiv. The CX-3 will only be offered in front wheel drive.
Crossovers are all the rage these days, and small crossovers even moreso. That said, I’m not sure that Mazda needs yet another low-volume model. Their lineup is full of low volume models. They need another big hit. I’m not sure the subcompact CUV segment is large enough to provide that, even if the CX-3 is fantastic.
