The Jeep Cherokee was last sold in the United States in 2001. It was a RWD / 4×4 off-road beast. It wasn’t fancy. It wasn’t refined. It was a basic machine designed to go just about anywhere.
The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee that you see here is a very different beast. It’s still not particularly fancy, but there is one striking difference. The engine routes the power to the wrong wheels. That’s right – the Cherokee is front wheel drive. All-wheel-drive will be optional, though.
I have never been a fan of a non-RWD based Jeep, period. Compass, Patriot – these are not real Jeeps. The FWD nature of the new Cherokee, combined with the fact that it rides on an Alfo Romeo platform… this could not be further from a real Jeep.
Then there’s the looks. It mostly sort-of looks like a Jeep, at least if you don’t look at the headlights. Why are they tiny little slits?
