2013 Chevy Cruze Diesel

You read that headline right. A diesel Chevy Cruze is coming to the US for the 2013 model year. As in the European version, the expected engine is a 2.0 liter turbodiesel four cylinder, with expected EPA ratings in the 40’s.

I’m still torn on the prospects of diesel powered cars here in the US. They get great fuel economy when compared to regular gas engines, which is a huge plus. The run absolutely forever, which is another huge plus. And they make obscene amounts of torque. What’s the problem, then?

The smell.

Yes, diesels have gotten better in the smell department. A modern VW TDI doesn’t smell anything like an old Ford SuperDuty. But it still smells vile. I’m not really sure I want to see millions of diesel-exhausts-spewing cars on the streets here. What say you?
