2011 MINI Countryman Crossover

First there was the Cooper, and it was good.  Really tiny, but in a good way.  Then there was the Clubman.  Still mini, but bigger mini, and friendlier to people who like to carry things in their car.  But it still only sat 2 comfortable, which was a problem.

Enter the 2011 MINI Countryman – a CUV type MINI.

Crossovers have their place – and this is one of the best uses I’ve seen to date.  That’s right, a crossover that I absolutely like.  This has got to be good, right?

What makes the Countryman different than the Cooper / Clubman?  For starts, it has four honkin’ doors!  And the rear seats appear to be large enough to accomodate life-size humans, which is fresh and new for MINI.  Additionally, AWD will be an option.  Not sure that I agree with that choice, though.  The Countryman will of course be heavier than it’s smaller brothers, yet it will have the same powerplant choices.  AWD will add even more weight, and that will hurt performance and fuel economy.
