2011 Ford Mustang V6 Rocks

Wait, what? A V6 powered Ford Mustang that isn’t a complete joke? You bet. For 2011, Ford is putting a smaller engine in the base Mustang. Instead of the 4.0 that makes the dinosaurs seem young, we get a shiny new all-aluminum DOHC Duratec 3.7 liter V6. Power is up from 210 HP / 240 lb-ft in the 2010 model, to a whopping

305 HP / 280 lb-ft of torque

Yep, three hundred of five ponies – from the base engine. Ford fans will notice, with a smile, that this number bests the output of the new Camaro by a single pony. Neener – neener Chevy.

In addition to the vastly improved engine, buyers will have their choice of a six speed handshaker, or a six speed auto. That’s up a gear for each from 2010. But wait, there’s more.

In addition to an all new, more powerful engine, and 2 new transmissions, the 2011 Mustang will get better fuel economy than the outgoing model. That’s right, fuel consumption improves from 18 city / 26 highway to 18 city / 29 highway. Buyers who choose the automatic get rewarded with even better mileage – 19 city / 30 highway.

There’s a new suspension setup, and some more tweaks, but I have to stop before my head explodes. V6 Mustang buyers won’t be laughingstocks anymore. Instead, they’ll be the ones laughing.

I can only imagine what’s in store for the 2011 Mustang GT……
