That’s a reasonable starting price for a hybrid vehicle in 2009 – and certainly several thousand less than the Civic Hybrid. However, it’s also a far cry from the $18,500 rumored based price that has been making its rounds. Of course, that rumor slowly evolved from “around $18,500” to “starting under $20k”. And technically, the 2010 Insight *does* start under $20k – if you ignore the $670 destination charge. In that case, the base price is $19,800.
What exactly does that $20,470 buy you? A pretty well-equipped, fuel sipping little Honda. Take a look:
2010 Honda Insight LX Specs
- Power windows
- power locks
- Automatic climate control ( nice )
- tilt & telescoping wheel
- CD / AUX input
2010 Honda Insight EX EXtras ( base price of the EX is $21,970 )
- Alloy wheels
- Cruise
- Paddle shifters
- Stability control
Whichever way you want your Insight, you get the same 1.3 liter hybrid powertrain, good for an EPA rated 40 MPG city / 43 MPG highway. All things considered, not a bad package. Now if only we can get those cool federal tax credits back…
