For some time now, Ford has been promising the coming EcoBoost engine. The promise was outstanding power output combined with improved fuel efficiency, through the use of turbochargers. The 2010 Flex will be the first vehicle with an EcoBoost option. Does this all-new engine live up to the hype? The specs are as follows:
- 355 HP 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6
- 350 lb-ft of torque
- Twin Turbochargers
- EPA Says: 22 MPG highway, 18 MPG combined
- AWD Required
You can add EcoBoost as an option on either SEL or Limited models, but you must take AWD as well. Given the power output of the engine, I see why Ford chose to do this. And might I say, that’s one awfully powerful V6. Given the power output, and the size of the Flex, the EPA ratings aren’t bad….. but I think I was expecting a better showing here.
