BMW’s popular Z4 is all new for 2010, and comes with an all-new price tag. The base price of a 2010 Z4 is now a whopping $46,575. For the record, that’s about $9800 more than the base price of a 2008 Z4. One might wonder what in the world BMW is thinking. Ten grand is a huge price swing, and will keep a lot of folks from considering the Z4.
The base engine for the 2010 Z4 is a 258 HP I6, which should send you from 0-60 in about 5.8 seconds. In the base Z4, you also get leatherette standard. That’s right, nearly $50 grand, and you don’t even get real cow skin.
Things start looking up on the upgraded, 306 HP twi-turbo Z4 sDrive35i. While the name is something I’ll leave you to debate ( I don’t like it ), the numbers are impressive. Base price on this puppy is $52,475 ( not a huge jump from the base Z4 ), and should get you a 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds. Not bad.
At the end of the day, the new Z4 is a BMW – that means a couple things. It’s sure as heck not cheap ( especially with the $10 price hike ). But it also drives fantastically well. Acceleration will be impressive, shifting crisp, and handling fantastic. But at this price point, I have to look across the road at the other German offerings. The base Boxster is $46,600, and has 255 HP, yet gets from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds.

Didn’t the original Z3 have a base price of somewhere around $24,000 when it first came out? BMW has really taken this vehicle upmarket. Auto Bild is correct about 0% of the time. That’s why we don’t publish anything that isn’t confirmed for production with very official language.
