2009 Ford F-150 tows up to 11,300 pounds

That huge number – eleven thousand, three hundred pounds, puts it a cool 500 lbs above the previous top dog Tundra.  Impressively, Ford manages to top Toyota while falling way short in horsepower, and slightly short in torque.

However, one has to ask a question – when was the last time you needed to tow 11,300 lbs?  If you’re a contractor / construction worker, then you should have a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck, so you need not apply. When was the last time a regular Joe needed to tow so much?

This, gentlemen, is one of the primary reasons trucks are so huge, heavy, and inefficient these days.  Let’s get back to the days of actually half ton pickups.  If someone needs more power, there’s always the 3/4 ton and 1 ton series.  90%+ of the F-150 buyers wouldn’t notice the difference anyway.
