2009 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner

2009-ford-escape Take a look at the 2009 Ford Escape.  Looks exactly like a 2008 Ford Escape, doesn’t it?  That’s because they just redesigned it for 2008, so there was no need for exterior updates.  The news is under the hood, with some improvements to the engines.  Both the 2009 Escape and 2009 Mercury Mariner got the same changes, since they are mechanically the same car.

The 2009 4 cylinder gets upgraded from 2.3 liters to 2.5 liters, and gains 17 HP for a total of 170 HP.  The newer engine is also more fuel efficient, gaining approximately 1 mpg.  If you’re more of a V6 kind of guy, then you’ll be pleased to hear that the V6 gets a 30 HP jump ( 230 HP is the new total ).  Even with the big power jump, there’s an expected 1 MPG gain.

Both hybrids will now get the benefits of the 2.5 liter gas engine as well, though there’s no word on how it affects their fuel economy.  They will see a revised braking system though, since the strange brakes were one of the biggest complaints on the current model.  Stability control also becomes a standard feature.  You can purchase the 2009 Escape and Mariner starting this summer.
