2009 Corvette ZR1

2009-chevrolet-corvette-zr1 The Ultimate Corvette has arrived – with GM’s blessing, of course. The ZR1 is one of the auto world’s worst kept secrets, but most anticipated vehicles. Well, here it is ladies and gentlemen – the most powerful, the most amazing, the fastest Corvette ever produced, the 2009 ZR1. Corvette fans recognize the ZR1 name immediately – it’s a fabled one. Rest assured that this new Super Vette not only lives up to the name ZR1, it makes the legend stronger. Want to hear some numbers? Fine – here you go:

  • 638 HP 6.2 liter supercharged OHV V8 – Codename LS9
  • 604 lb-ft of torque – enough to cause small earthquakes
  • Close ratio 6 speed manual
  • 19″ wheels up front, with 20’s out back ( That’s P335 / 25ZR20 if you must know. )
  • 15.5″ carbon-ceramic brakes ( 15″ in the rear )
  • Approx. 3350 lbs ( about 200 lbs more than the Z06 )
  • Bitchin’ polycarbonate window in the hood – so you can see the intercooler.
  • Estimated top speed of 200+ mph

2009-chevrolet-corvette-zr1-2 Pricing is still up in the air – but $100,000+ is a given. There’s no question that we’re looking at the first 6 figure Corvette. The naysayers will say, well, nay probably. They’ll cry about how the interior is hardly different than the Z06. They’ll cry that it’s a lot of money for an American made car – after all, a hundred grand buys you a lot of very nice German cars. The rest of us, however, will be ignoring these foolish few, and simply stare in awe at the most beautiful Corvette in history. Yes, even better than the classics – and I love me some old Corvettes.

The design is a little on the loud side, but 620 HP from a massive, supercharged, good old fashioned American V8 backs it up. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times aren’t known yet, but you can be sure they’ll be absurd. This, folks, is as good as it gets. Way to go GM. Way go.
