2009 Chrysler Sebring Spy Shots

2009-chrysler-sebring The current Chrysler Sebring ranks up with the worst-designed cars in the history of automobiles.  It’s truly, hideously, horribly, ugly.  There’s no positive side.  It doesn’t look good from any angle.

The New Chrysler is trying to change that perception though.  Their solution?  Remove the hood strakes!  Yea!

Well sure, the strakes were awful.  I’m not denying that.  But the Sebring still has the proportions of a, well, Sebring.  Nothing short of a complete, from-scratch, overhaul will save the Sebring.  Until Chrysler / Cerberus is willing to bite the bullet and do just that, the Sebring will remain a failure.

More spy shots.

  1. I think your analysis of the Chrysler Sebring is totally uncalled for. You are just getting on the same bandwagon as those others who think it’s sheik and hip to dis American car makers. The truth is the Sebring looks as good, if not better, than the current Toyota Camry. The current camry is a bloated whale with awkward styling that gives styling cues to something in my toilet after a big meal. Don’t be a poser, try supporting your American designers.
  2. I’m not in love with the Camry - it could use some styling work. But it does look like a nice, high quality vehicle from the back / sides. Only the front has some serious design issues.

The Sebring looks horrific from every angle. Big difference.

Plus with the Toyota, you know you’re getting a solidly built, very reliable vehicle. With the Sebring, you’re buying an ugly question mark. If the Sebring was noted for high quality and bullet-proof reliability, then it could get away with bad styling. Unfortunately it isn’t, and it can’t.

I’ll support good American designs. I won’t support American designers just because they’re American. If they put out crap like the Sebring, I’ll call them on it.

  3. But you need to give specific examples of why you think the quality is so bad. Did you purchase one and the interior cracked? Did you rent one and the transmission fell out on the road? Did you test one and during that time it began spewing steam from under the hood? Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one. You need to give specifics and not just what JD power and associates or whoever else who use faulty testing data, etc. Japanese automakers are notorious for not disclosing quality problems, and issuing recalls, etc.
  4. Marc,
Did you purchase a Sebring because of your test drive, where the vehicle was a stunning display of top quality and premium design? Doubtful, and neither have I personally had a bad experience with a Sebring. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s a crap car.

That article is a very good one, BTW. The American car companies do have a huge problem with perception. Decades of building awful cars is what created this perception. It wasn’t created overnight, and it won’t be changed overnight. People are buying the good American cars ( see Malibu ), slowly. It’s tough to overcome such a huge perception problem. In the case of the Sebring though, the perception is true. It’s an awful car.

I don’t feel sorry for US automakers with regards to their perception problem. After all, they are the ones who created it. It’s like feeling sorry for that really fat guy who is finally changing his habits. 10 years of triple whoppers and supersize fries doesn’t go away with 2 weeks of lettuce and beans. Poor analogy but I hope the point comes across. I never was good at analogies.

  5. Just bought a 2008 sebring 2.7 auto-I work at chrysler, but do not require myself to purchase one(also have a camry)test drove camry-accord and sebring—sebring won, better ride quality and seat quality-smooth powertrain-fit and finish are very good–love the design — the auto rating anylists are in my opinion totaly wrong on this one– chrysler sebring is very competitive thanks jmohr kenosha, wis
  6. Jeff,
Congrats on your purchase. While I disagree with your camry / accord / sebring comparison, you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. I hope your Sebring serves you well.
  7. I have a 2005 Chrysler Sebring Convertable (touring) and it just turned over 75,000 miles. It still looks like new and everything works fine. The only thing we have had to do is replace the fuel pump and it was $650. Other than that, I am happy. This is my 3rd Sebring convertable (1996 & 2001 models also).
  8. hello, does the name forte mean to anyone. where is the differance between the 2010 and 2007. if i remember you guys discontinued leasing did you not……..
