2009 BMW 335d Diesel - Coming to the US
BMW is bringing the 335d to the States this fall - and that’s some of the greatest news I’ve heard from the auto world in awhile. Why the big deal about diesel? Well, a couple reasons. The one that I’m going to focus on is a number. And that number is
425
That number you see there, 425, is stunning. Why? It’s the lb-ft of torque that the 09 335d has. That’s right, 425 lb-ft of torque. In a 3 series BMW. Nevermind the respectable 265 HP and 0-62 MPH rating of 6.2 seconds. The estimated gas mileage ratings of 23 mpg city / 33 mpg highway are fine too. (Note: expect better real-world highway numbers from this car. EPA estimates on diesel engines tend to run low on the highway for whatever reason.)
The heart of this car is a 3.0 liter twin-turbo diesel six. This magnificent engine will be a blast to drive, with that much torque on tap. BMW has done their best to reduce / eliminate turbo lag too, so no snide jokes about lag times. This car is the real deal, and will find more than a few homes in the US. The real question is, how much will it be, and how to convince the wife you need one?
