2008 Mini Clubman

Mini is growing up – and here’s the result. The Mini Clubman will be Mini’s second model, and basically a stretched version of the pint-sized Mini Cooper that we all know and love. In addition to being longer ( and thus hopefully having a usable back seat ), the Clubman features a rear suicide door on the passenger side to ease getting in and out. Also, the tailgate / hatch opening is split, and opens horizontally, if that makes sense. Not sure why BMW / Mini chose to do that, but it is what it is.

While a bigger Mini may seem like an oxymoron, I think that bringing Mini styling to a car that’s more usable as a family vehicle will only strengthen the brand. No doubt BMW is hoping to sell quite a few of these Clubmans, and rightfully so.

I’m looking forward to seeing this car. I hope it will be at this years Houston Auto Show.
