The Mazda 6 has been a huge hit for Mazda overall, despite the confused name ( Is it a Mazda 6 or a Mazda Mazda 6? ). The underpinnings for the Mazda 6 now power quite a few vehicles in the Ford and Mazda lineup.
The 2008 Mazda6 will share it’s platform with the new European Ford Mondeo ( which will hopefully make it’s way to the US in Mercury guise ). The car will grow, as cars inevitably do, for whatever reason. It will be ~30mm longer, and wider as well. Engine specs aren’t final yet, but expect to see a version of the new Duratec 3.5 liter engine making somewhere in the 250-260 horsepower range, as well as a 2.5 liter 4 banger base engine. A hybrid model is reportedly in the works as well.

As of now there are no plans at all for a new Mazdaspeed6. The current one hasn’t exactly set the world in fire, in the sales department.
