2008 Dodge Caliber SRT-4 Spy Shots - Live and in person

2008 Dodge Caliber SRT-4 Here’s the 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT-4, sans all the requisite body cladding usually used to disguise pre-production models. It’s hard for me to say that I’m happy to see this car. To go along with the standard Caliber body, the SRT-4 adds foglights, a hoodscoop, and big honkin SRT wheels.

The big news, of course, isn’t the body additions - it’s the engine. And packed under the Caliber SRT-4’s slightly deformed hood is a monster of an engine - can you say 300 HP? That’s right, 300 HP in this ugly little monster. The folks at SRT are hooking up a turbo to the 2.4 liter four banger, and the results are superb. 300 HP and 260 lb-ft of torque @ 2000 RPM.

So, what’s the problem? Well, it’s twofold. One, look at it. The Caliber ain’t exactly a thing of beauty. Two, three hundred horsepower directed at the wrong wheels - this car is FWD. Considering the torque steer issues that Mazda has with the Mazdaspeed 3, I can only imagine what sort of problems Dodge will have with this one.
