2008 Corvette Z07

2008 Corvette Z07 Right on the tail of the 2008 Corvette LS3 announcement, we have some fantastic spy shots of the upcoming Super Vette, whether it’s the Corvette Z07 or Corvette SS. The name is still up in the air as far as we know, but it’s nice to have some actual shots of what the fastest Corvette ever will look like.

Best guess at this point is that a 6.2 liter LS9 version of the fantastic small block V8 will make it’s way under the hood of the new Vette. Supercharged, of course – horsepower estimates are sitting right around the 650 HP mark, and that’s purported to be underrated. Six speed manual only – no slushbox here. If you can’t shift your own gears, there’s a nice 436 HP LS2 Vette for you; you just can’t have the big daddy Vette.

Pricing is wildly speculative right now, but I’d wager to say that this new Corvette will be the first to break the $100,000 barrier – I’m thinking $115,000 before options. Anyone else want to venture a guess?

i think, and motortrend agrees with this, that the Z07 will be a little lower priced or right at the price of the viper. if so this will be sweet addition to the chevy family but i seems a little over the top in hp. that is the same reason i don’t like the viper, it rides rough daily and you can feel the heat of the engine through the firewall.

Hey, I’m not usually one to argue with Motor Trend ( one of my favorite car mags ), but I’d be very surprised if this car stickers for less than six figures.

As for the heat issus, that’s a very real problem with the viper, and part of the reason that it’ll remain a niche vehicle ( the $86 grand or so that it costs doesn’t hurt, either ). This new Super Vette won’t get a ton of buyers, but it’s not made for the mass market – the regular Vette is. This one is only for hardcore speed nuts who don’t mind a few concessions in the name of speed.
