2008 Chevy Colorado to get a V8
With the news that the Hummer H3 Alpha was going to be packing Chevy’s 5.3 liter V8, this was only a matter of time. The 2008 Chevy Colorado will have the same engine available - in complete 295 HP form. Now, I’m always a fan of more power. Power is fun, and more power logically means more fun.
However, the only other midsize / compact pickup truck to offer a V8 engine is the Dodge Dakota. Following in the Dakota’s footsteps isn’t exactly a recipe for success. The Dakota is, after all, the worst midsize pickup truck on the market ( assuming we count the Ford Ranger as a compact truck ).
For what it’s worth, the 5.3 liter V8 that’s going into the Colorado will have the familiar cylinder deactivation, so fuel economy shouldn’t be *too* terrible. And with the addition of the V8, this may set the stage for “downsizing” some customers from a full-size truck to a midsize. Some folks just won’t give up their eight cylinders.
