2007 Honda CRV Review

Honda redesigned it’s popular CRV crossover / CUV / baby-SUV for 2007, and the styling changes are apparent. It’s a much more attractive vehicle than the outgoing, more boxy CRV. A company opposed to radical change at a level rivaled only by Porsche, Honda is not one to stir up the pot for fun. Their game is refinement, simply make minor updates to make the current vehicle slightly better than the last one. And that’s what you’ll see with the 2007 CRV – it is evolutionary, and not so much revolutionary. The engine is the same – a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder, though the horsepower has been slightly increased. Honda won’t be offering a V6 upgrade for the CRV, just like in previous years. This may turn away some buyers, but I think most CRV shoppers are really looking for fuel economy and safety in a small SUV package. That’s what the CRV has always offered, and it continue to shine in those areas.

2007 Honda CRV Reviews

Detroit News reviews the 2007 Honda CRV and writes – ‘I was a bit surprised by the five-speed when competitors like the Ford Edge are now offering six-speeds. We both noticed the engine is noisy at higher speeds. But the fuel economy is not bad, at 23 miles per gallon in city driving and 30 on the highway. I guess my other observation here is that the competition in the segment is pretty stiff, and I just wished Honda would have checked every box.’

New Car Test Drive reviews the 2007 Honda CRV and praises the safety equipment – ‘In terms of safety, the new CR-V is fully featured. In addition to the required three-point seatbelts at all five seating positions and front seat airbags, people protection includes front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear seat side air curtains with roll-over sensors and front seat active head restraints (which work to reduce whiplash in rear impacts). For crash avoidance, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control are all standard.’

Motor Trend reviews the 2007 Honda CRV and writes – ‘It’s tighter in turns and quieter on the highway than in the past. Steering is responsive and linear, and the revised MacPherson-strut front and multilink rear suspension offers a decent balance of agility and comfort, making the CR-V behave like an oversized Accord.’

David Thomas of Cars.com reviews the 2007 Honda CRV and writes – ‘The aging Jeep Liberty is still the best-selling compact SUV on the market; the outgoing CR-V was third. With this new CR-V on the market, only the Toyota RAV4 manages to be a true competitor, and it adds an optional V-6 engine. Still, the CR-V brings its own distinct exterior and enough interior refinement and driving pleasure to compete with any compact SUV.’

Bill Jackson of Cars.com reviews the 2007 Honda CRV and writes – ‘The 2007 model is about three inches shorter than the previous generation — mostly because the spare tire no longer hangs at the rear bumper — an inch wider and roughly the same height. It loses almost an inch of ground clearance, but given the CR-V is a car-based crossover, it’s doubtful the average buyer will be concerned with its off-road prowess.’

Autobytel reviews the 2007 Honda CR-V and comments on the exterior styling – ‘Few people will love it, many will like it and more than a few will hate the new styling of the CR-V. Granted, designing a car to appeal the diverse demographic that buys the CR-V is a black-belt Sudoku challenge. Most staffers at Autobytel were conflicted over the style of the nose, using words like “ugh” and “ugly.” Others found the rear blister to be troublesome to the eyeball, and none felt as though the design was a home run.’
