2007 GMC Sierra Review - Karl on Cars
Karl on Cars reviews the 2007 GMC Sierra and writes - ‘Our test car was an extended cab, SLT 4×4 model with the 6.0-liter Vortec V8 that makes 367 horsepower. The power deliver is smooth and the torque band is wide, but I did notice a few instances of the transmission not picking gears as quickly or effectively as it could have. That six-speed automatic can’t come too soon.’
A 4 speed auto in a brand new, $39,000 2007 model year truck? A truck that was JUST redesigned? You’ve got to be kidding. Four speed autos are ridiculously old-tech. And I don’t mean old, tried and true. I mean old, bad bad bad. Five speed autos are the minimum acceptable transmission in the full-size truck class. Especially when you have the balls to ask nearly $40 large for a pickemup truck. Yet another example of how good ol GM didn’t deliver.

I heard that this is a high-rider car, which is no problem for people long of leg. But ingress and egress can be challenging for short-legged types. Also, the four-speed automatic transmission should be replaced by a more fuel-efficient five-speed or six-speed model. Ride, acceleration and handling: It is a full-size pickup truck that rides and handles like a pickup truck. People desiring something gentle and sedan-like should shop elsewhere. Acceleration is good, meaning that the GMC Sierra 1500 has no problems entering freeways or changing lanes. Head-turning quotient: It’s a pickup truck with a great GMC grille insert that make it look more sexy and powerful. But sexy doesn’t get it in this league. Power does. It looks powerful…
