2007 BMW 335i Coupe
I had the chance to take an 07 BMW 335i Coupe out for a quick spin today.. and naturally I took it. This is one of the quicker Bimmers, with 300 HP on tap from the twin-turbo inline-6. The power is instantaneous - there’s not even a hint of turbo lag. The handling is just not right - we were taking turns at 60 mph that I hesitate to take at 30 in a “regular” car. The back end didn’t break loose even a bit - it just stuck. And the brakes were simply amazing - several times I thought were were going to plow into some trees, and the car stopped way ahead of time.
The exhaust not was uninspired - it just sounded like a six cylinder engine. You couldn’t even hear the turbos working, which I have to say I was slightly disappointed in. I definitely prefer the sound of a big, mean, V8 to this one - but I’ll take the gas mileage of the 335i ( 21 city / 30 highway ) over a V8 any day.
The backseat even appeared usable for regular-sized kids - which is great, because many sporty cars can’t say that.
If there was anything I didn’t like about this car, it might have to be the interior, and that’s really nitpicking. The interior was perfectly nice, except for the bizarre cupholders that pop out of the dash. Besides that it was as nice as one can reasonably expect. But if I had to pick something I didn’t like, I guess that would be it.
This was my first chance to drive a BMW, and I finally understand why people have such a love affair with them. They just drive better than other cars.
